It's a Volkswagen with a Skoda badge, actually very good cars
Contrary to popular belief, skoda is in the Volkswagen group, along with Audi and Seat, however, they aren't of the same technology. Its like Parky and Davina - accept no imitations!
I think you'll find the technology is much the same as it is a straight VW engine, it's actually the build quality which suffers most as they are built in Skoda factories, of course all your extras and whatever else, are Skoda designed and built. So you are not getting a VW as such otherwise it would cost the same, but you are getting a seriously mechanically sound car.
yeah - pretty sure the Fabia is mechanically the same as a VW Polo, which is the same as a SEAT Ibiza, which is the same as....
Also has the same engine. No coincidence that Skodas became decent cars so suddenly, they pretty much became a completely different make entirely. My grandad used to have one of the old rear-engine 'proper' Skodas, ie the rubbish ones. Don't remember much about it except a wheel fell off it once when it was just driving along. Great cars!!
wheras VWs are mechanically very sound. They better be anyway - once got all four wheels off the ground going over a humpback bridge in an old Golf!
always wanted one of those - would have to be silver, hardtop, with that black stripe down the side......mmmmmm!
The one I had was the model after that - bigger, fatter, uglier, rustier, with a lawnmower engine. But surprisingly nice to drive and always got the feeling I could have bulldozed my way through a house in it without a scratch.
This is Sparky McGee, he doesn't have his eyelids anymore though, sadly.
And this is Sparky last winter after my husband hit some black ice on the highway and ran into a snow bank and flipped the car onto it's top. Sparky is all fixed up and better now though. And hubby wasn't hurt thankfully. Although he apologized profusely for hurting Sparky so badly.
