more! :
E.T.A. Hoffmann: The Golden Pot: A Modern Fairytale
Henry James: Daisy Miller
Frank McCourt: Angela's Ashes
Daniel Kehlmann: Measuring the World
Virginia Woolf: Mrs Dalloway

that's it, I think... for now.

How about we all pick 10 books and/or 10 films from other people's lists to read/watch in 2012?
This is a very good idea, sorta ongoing class project. Perhaps we could also report back on what we thought of them.

I will definitely participate, just have to think over which films I want to see :) |

Kate Fox: Watching the English
Danny Wallace: Yes Man
Leonie Swann: Three Bags Full (it's a sheep detective story. need I say more? it's awesome. author is German, btw, but it's set in Ireland ;D)
I'd add Goethe (Sorrows of Young Werther, Faust), but Goethe in English? guess that wouldn't make much sense...
Taking this list and ordering like crazy. Glad I work in a library! THANK YOU :) |

That none of the Hermann Hesse books mentioned interest you . You're like in your 20's . Thats the perfect age for them except Magister Ludi . Thats a tough one |

Kristy, that's... sad! :'( poor little books... Which ones did you order? Sometimes back-cover texts/teasers are misleading... maybe you should just pick one and start reading? Not necessarily one from my list, of course ;P
And I agree with Ric, Hesse is a great author to read in your 20's! His poems are beautiful, too...not sure how they sound in English, though (obviously) ;)
Also, if you want sth more...err..."fun", I strongly encourage you to read this ;P
Also, I think you'd like this because who wouldn't like a story about the Queen discovering the world of literature?!
(Right now I'm reading A Visit from the Goon Squad - loving it so far!) |

Oh, I should have specified. MOVIES. I actually have a stack of books already that I need to get through (and I've read a bunch of what was on people's lists). I put a bunch of newer movies and miniseries on hold. 50/50, Downton Abbey, The Help, Temple Grandin, Mildred Pearce, P&P (not newer, and Ive seen it 1000 times), ummm...a bunch more that I can't remember at the moment.
I was rejecting your movies, not books :) Although I am really not a poetry kinda girl. Unless it is a dirty limerick :) |

oh, ok, I'm ok with that! (Especially since I didn't mention all the silly comedies and costume "dramas" and chick-flicks I love *lol*)... I'm so not going to watch 50/50... or Temple Grandin... or Mildred Pearce : |
