Nikki, have you heard the story about Fran writing that song?
The Cage? About breaking up with his girlfriend and having to let her go...right? |

So Nikki, do you have a journalism job, or internship?
Sorry, went to make tea.
Yes, Lauren, I have a journalism job. I graduated last May with a BA in journalism and I'm currently a reporter/assistant layout editor for an automotive newspaper. In Detroit, that's pretty much all anyone cares about...that and sports! I love hockey but would LOVE to ultimately write for a travel magazine or work as an entertainment writer. The paper I work for now is a weekly but I interned for The Oakland Press (which, I'm sure Anne knows as she lived here) is a pretty big daily paper here in Michigan.
Are you interning? When do you graduate?
I'm not there yet, I'll start in January. But I probably will get an internship. They provide really good broadcast positions, but I'm hoping to get one with The Washington Post. The college I'm going to is in DC |

No, I"m not. It's really more the family is using it as a family reunion of sorts. If it was a cousin I'm close to there would be no question but since it's more a family "event" I'm slightly on the fence. I saw a part of this side of my family this summer for an afternoon. I have 15 or so (don't make count) cousins on that side and I think most of them are coming.
Thanks for helping me justify putting off buying a plane ticket for a tour schedule! : )
It's Ok...I'm waiting to buy Red Wing tickets until after Travis posts their dates. |

Here it is:
The Cage
New York February 1999.
"I was talking to Cinjun from Remy Zero for ages and we were having a great conversation. The kind of conversation that could have gone on indefinitely but because I was in a hotel and hotel phone calls cost an arm and a leg so after an hour and a half we HAD to terminate.
Before we did I asked him if he could see his guitar and he said yes. I could see mine across the other side of the room. I suggested that as soon as we put the phone down we should rush over and pick up our guitars and write a song and then the next evening I would call him up and we could play the song to each other. It was a deal.
So I put the phone down and rushed over and started to strum around some melody that I had gotten in LA a week earlier. It was just afew notes but was really melodic. This would make up what was the chorus of The Cage.
The chorus started lyrically as 'Cin-jun don't you worry, man....da da da da da da da ...oh da da ..." and listening back to the dictaphone changed to "When your bird has flown away...She was never meant to stay....Oh to keep..."
The verse melody and lyric and chords all came next and the song was finished in a skelatal form by the early morning. I finished it off the next day and called Cinjun up that night. He had written a song called 'Perfect Memory' and we both played these songs to each other and blew the other away. Cool." |

Yeah, they sang that annoying song that's the theme song to 'Smallville,' and they went on tour with Travis.
EDIT: No one else has any weird Travis dreams? Mine were pretty bizarre. |

Yes, they are a band. They opened for them for their 2001 tour. They were really good. You may have heard their song "Saaaaaaaaaaaaave Me" that was the theme for Smallville.
I heard the story from Cinjun's point of view. He made it sound like he was so blown away by Fran's song that he wouldn't even share his. But he sang it at the Austin show and his was really good too. |

Where did you get this from? Never knew that. Very cool. I wish I could just write great songs like that on the spot! |

Yours were really funny. I know I had some around the time they came but I don't remember them anymore. I am sure I'll have some soon and I'll share.
I had one a few nights ago that we were recreating our wedding and I was trying to find all the stuff we saved and buy new things. I thought I had everything but then 20 minutes before we were starting I realized I left the dress at home. I think it was because of our friend's wedding and I just had weddings in my mind. |

I've had some. None are very clear though, i vaguely remember them. I think in one i was at a travis concert, but so few people showed up that the band decided to play on the floor and they had the audience get on stage. and then fran had a giant stuffed animal that he hooked to the end of a fishing rod and threw onstage. a bit odd i think... |
