Quality of Travis b-sides is incredible, difficult to comprehend.
20
A Little Bit Of Soul
My Last Chance
Village Man
Life & Soul Of The Party
Can't decide on one, probably A Little Bit Of Soul just ahead of 20. But it ain't easy...they are so phenomenally good.
The Boy With No Name in particular could have been a stunning double album. |

BenFilbert wrote: Typing to Reach You wrote: I remember going on about whether Sarah is a b-side before. I still think it isn't. J. Smith was never a single. It was an EP, and EPs are like mini albums. The J. Smith one is kinda a bad example of an EP because it only has 3 tracks like most of their singles, but it is an EP nonetheless. You can often get EPs with 5, 6 or more songs on. After all, it would seem odd to classify the Glass Onion songs as b-sides, no?
I would say Sarah IS a b-side. Maybe technically it isn't, but it's not on any album. J Smith reached number 1 on the Indie Singles Chart didn't it? Glass Onion wasn't released by Travis though was it? Wasn't it released when they were called Glass Onion? In that case no, they're not Travis b-sides. ;)
Lol, no I was just using Glass Onion, the band, as an example. ;P They released an EP, but it would be weird to consider those songs Glass Onion b-sides. It's the same concept with the J. Smith EP.
Humm, well yes, Sarah certainly isn't an album track. But I don't think that makes it a b-side either. I guess we like to think songs have to fit snugly into one category or the other, but I just don't think that's the case. And some songs may be both.
Was it J. Smith the song that topped the charts, of J.Smith the EP? If you see what I mean. I don't know what the rules are with EPs - whether their sales count as single or album sales. But I guess, with the new chart system introduced a few years back, any song can now enter the charts, regardless of whether it has been released as an official single or not. Since J. Smith was the title track of the EP, and the one that received some radio play, it makes sense that people downloaded that one the most.
But hey, I don't really claim to be an expert of these things lol, I'm just trying to work it out logically. Vulcan-style. :P |

You know that the title of that song is "I Don't Mean To Get High", right? ;)
About this "what's a b-side and what's not"-discussion, it would probably be better if we just called the songs "other tracks" :P |

All is relative. A lot of Travis songs are includes as 'b-sides' on the singles but later they appear oficially on the album, like happened with "The line is fine" and "Get up". There's other cases where these songs are hidden tracks but also depends of what album version is, for example, in my case I have the japanese editions of TMW and OTJS and they include "Be my baby" and both remix versions of WTRY (Driftwood b-sides) and "Sarah" (J. Smith EP) in each case respectivily.

Good point. Well, they haven't released as many EPs as albums or singles, so it looks like it's easier to group it with singles as they're shorter in length. Or just have a best Travis EP thread. :) |

Well, I'm not sure why it is, maybe it's too cheesy for me? I tried to like it, but I just don't. Lol.
