Alisha ( clearly not English) has actually won an award for her Creative writing , so can , consider herself an expert. Her work is highly commendable. Looking at your first post , people in glass houses.....

Nothing's wrong. I just made a subjective remark, based on my love of the English language and the fact that the reviewer murdered it, in my opinion. Seems I'm not alone in thinking that it was poorly written. This sums it up for me quite nicely:

Sums it up for me too , Alisha is a woman..

Joanna Hanner has it spot on. Too many "experts" on the internet.

Having an award for creative writing does not make someone a journalist. Two completely different skills sets.

And btw, there is an equal case to make for the writer (and yes, of course I know it's a female) being English.

Typing to reach you's point was pretty much the same as Joanna's, and equally well made.

As I said, great sentiments, terrible writing....

If you spent the same amount of time being positive ( and getting your facts right) as you do criticising well intentioned journalists , you might, just might , not have to justify your hypocrisy so much.

Does it really matter? It's a review, and a good one at that.

Does Sarah remind anyone else of 60s ballads? I know next to nothing about 'old' music so I have no idea.

I put in another post somewhere - it reminds me of Gilbert O Sullivan Nothing Rhymed

Thank you for pointing out exactly what I did- my posts in this thread were balanced. Positive tempered with negative. I have nothing to justify. Opinions are not facts, therefore I got no facts wrong. Journalists are as open to criticism as any other types of writer- being in print means you are fair game to both praise and criticism. And finally, just because my opinion is different to yours does not make me a hypocrite.

Nope, but would have every respect for anyone who wrote an article as good as that , whether the commas were upside down back to front or double dutched.

I've read other works of the author, I've read that review on another website and I think that it's an editor mistake. I can't tell you if there's something wrong because my english is not so good so I can't say anything about grammar things, but... It's weird. I can tell you that they changed the review and/or fixed it, because I've read it yesterday on that website and it wasn't like it is now.

Oh yeah, it's changed now - still an unusual style, but grammatically it's OK now.

Yeah, that's what I thought and... Guh, I've read this version on the other website, so probably this is the right one and the version of yesterday was an editor mistake or stuff like that.

I'm sure this person is a good creative writer, but she obviously doesn't understand grammar or punctuation. I really didn't intend to seem rude in my original post because I liked what she had to say, however, it was just incredibly hard to read with run-on sentences. No offence, but as an editor and journalist, I would never, ever accept a review written like that from a reporter or freelancer. Writing isn't just about pretty words. It's also about making things clear, easy to follow and understandable for your audience.

Or the editors could have fixed the mistakes she made in the original version she sent them...

Either way, it's a positive Travis review so I'm happy. :)
