Oh it is great fun especially when you've got a really good Ceilidh band playing. Another favourite of mine (and one of the easiest) is the Canadian Barn dance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrgJb6UfX1g

Ps my computer's rubbish so I can't actually watch the video. My apologies if it's bad quality. Also I was at that gig!It was a great night!

Well when I finished 6th Year (or Year 14 as it's called now) we organised a Formal which is pretty much the same as a Prom. Our school had banned Formals for years as the last one was a disaster and lots of people trashed the place and got into trouble. Ours was brill! We hired a country hall, organised coaches etc and teachers were invited too. We had loads of fun and went to a girls house for an after party (her mum was in another country on work lol). That afterparty was excellant tho memory is a bit rusty as we consumed way too much alcohol, thus the boys got their eyebrows shaved off and got made up with our makeup or we shaved all sideburns too! lol

Then at the end of Uni we organised a Formal for the Psychology Society. It was pretty good but a tad stiff for my liking! lol Can't remember much of that either :-/

I do remember the torture of looking for dresses tho in my day we hired them!

we also do the céilí thing over here.
this one is a bit tame is comparison to some of the céilíthe I've attended though.

my new trad dancing passion however is "Sean Nós"-it has to be seen to be believed, some of it is so aggressive.
here's a guy dancing on a barrel top.
Some of the guys wear hobnailed boots. I've literally seen guys hanging from rafters and dropping to the floor after kicking a table-top into splinters by dancing on it. sometimes they smash glasses on the floor and dance in the shards.
the best is when another dancer gets up and squares up to the first dancer and they are literally in each other's faces trying to intimidate the other person out of it.

it's like free-style irish dancing with none of the horrible wigs and costumes that other irish dancing has descended into. sean nós dancers would kick michael flatley's ass any day.

I just saw this story myself and was feeling slightly embarrassed as well. Of all the things to export to the UK, why did it have to be prom? $1000 + for the event is crazy. I spent probably a tenth of that, and I thought that was too much!
