Well I understand that you need to be a Doctor (ie hold a PhD) in order to be a Professor, but a Doctor can do many differnt jobs including Professor.

Is it not higher than 'doctor'?? Like all of my lecturers are doctors but only 2 (head of school & associate head of school) are professors?

Should be from going through Joanna's info taken from Wikipedia. A Professor will have Doctors in his team but is himself a Doctor since a Doctor is someone who holds a PhD in the initial meaning of the word.

The quality of your PhD will determine if you're eligible to become a lecturer/assistant professor. (You need to pass with honours). And to become a professor you need to write a second doctoral thesis. If your PhD isn't good enough, the only title you'll ever have is "Doctor".
