There are people out there who also think Britian and England are the same thing, even in the media of England they sometimes believe the two are interchangable.
Britian consists of England, Scotland, Wales, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. (There's probably a few others)
The UK is the United Kingdom of Britian and Northern Ireland.
Southern Ireland or The Republican Free State of Ireland is totally seperate. Politically (though maybe not geographically).

In Finland people usually talk about England meaning UK. I once had a slip of a tongue calling an Englishman and a Scot "you English". I was lucky the Scot was a gentleman, or I would've been beaten up. It took a long time for him to forgive me. |
