About Selfish Jean, I think it's dreadful. It looks dreadful, it's poorly done, it's slightly original but only really a twist on what's gone before and it's not funny. At all. It takes away the greatness of the song, whereas the video for Love Will Come Through has a wonderful atmosphere throughout and adds to the song. Only my opinion of course. ;)
What's their worst video then, if not Selfish Jean? :P

Yeah I totally agree! One video must be their worst one and how could that not be Selfish Jean? Well I don't really like the Song To Self video either, but there are adorable people in that one :)

I like the fan's vid a lot...but the redux one. But we cannot agree on everything guys! It would be so boring to post something in this messageboard if we all agreed...

Talking about Song to self, I forget the version made by fans, agree with Alex about lovely people in there but for me the edition was awful, really awful. A shame because my expectative was very high.

Btw to me Flowers in the window is the only music video that relates to the actual song (in a strange kind of way :P). What do you think? Though I haven't tried to thoroughly analyse the text of all of the songs compared to the videos 
I agree that Selfish Jean is the worst video. Song To Self is also very boring compared to the earlier videos. Maybe also a bit more "serious" than what you would expect? :P

I actually like that we can disagree and respect other people's opinions at the same time. And this would make a great topic for next week's chat! :D
I didn't like the editing in "Song to Self" either and "Sing" is funny but it's not their best in my opinion, maybe I feel this way because at one point it was such a popular song, played everywhere, all of the time, that it got me bored...
All the pregnancy in "Flowers in the window" makes me feel...mmm...uncomfortable, haha!
And now that Bodi mentions it, I used to enjoy the fact that "Side" looks like the X-Files :)
But when it comes to "More than us", in my case, it's the same thing that happens with the song in itself, too much of a ballad...sorry!
From the early days I'd choose "AIWTDIR", mainly because of Fran's pose in the "turn and walk the other way" and "today I'll stay" parts :P and "Tied to the 90s", so simple, so happy 90s :D

I think the thing about FITW is that it's quite explicit. There are however, some points of connection between the videos and the lyrics, or maybe the videos bring a little something extra to the meaning of the songs...For instance Driftwood, when they stay sitting in the rain, I probably read too much into it but, for me it is making a point, how you should stay and deal with whatever comes your way, you persevere despite the odds...a kind of 'stop drifting away' statement. I'd love to discuss video by video!! I'll be back ;) |
