Sorry, silly me, I just realised that you had the Wiki link already and the word GOOD… Ignore my previous post, I don't know which ones are good. |

I was wondering if you'd read my post, so I didn't reply to your answer ;-)

Well, I believe My Left Foot is considered quite good, haven't seen it, though. |

seriously? hm...
it was in cinemas when I was working in Spain... and they had (involuntarily) the funniest movie poster ever:
instead of "how many times do you find the love of your life - ONCE" - it read:
"Cuántas veces encuentras el amor de tu vida? - ONCE".
Well, in Spanish, "once" means "eleven" ;D
*lol* Everytime I saw the poster and read that I felt frustrated, you know? :p |

And in Galsgow:
Sweet Sixteen
The House of Mirth
Wilbur (Wants To Kill Himself)
Sweet Sixteen was set in Greenock, but of course that's not far from Glasgow.
The House Of Mirth is technically not taking place in Glasgow (as far as I remember), but I know that at least parts of it was filmed in the town hall.
Wilbur is a brilliant film, absolutely loved it. And of course it's got Mads Mikkelsen in it, which is a plus :o) |

I think it was kind of brilliant in its innocence ;p
Plus, I told the joke to people here and they are still giggling about it now :p
I should have taken a PICTURE of the damn thing!!! |

Aaaaah, yes I liked Wilbur, too! I think Jamie Sieves (is that his name?) was absolutely brilliant as suicidal kindergarten teacher. |

I loved Wilbur too! Stumbled upon it on sky years ago.
I thought Once was ridiculously overrated though... I got to the end and was like..... is that it?! It seemed like an OK movie made just to showcase some OK songs...
Inside I'm Dancing is pretty good too, sad ending. Elbow had a song in the credits so that's pretty cool!! |

Aaaah, yes, the ending is so sad... Wilbur's ending, too.
I actually bought Wilbur on DVD today, cause I'll most probably write my dissertation about Glasgow now ;) |

I will agree that the end to Once is a little WTF-ish, but I greatly enjoyed the rest of it. |

Late Night Shopping, I think, was partly filmed in a cafe in my town... Most exciting thing to ever happen here! |

they don't end up together, right? hmph. they could at least provide a happy ending, you know, after one has had to listen to glen whatshisname for 2 hours ;)
(hm, though I have to admit, I actually like some of the songs...)
Late Night Shopping, hm, should I watch the movie? I mean, does it show a lot of "Glasgow life/atmosphere/etc"? because I kinda have to watch at least five or six of those movies now to find stuff I can write about ;) |

Oh my, I watched Wilbur again yesterday evening (first time without German dubbing) and, hm, I don't know, is it me or does the movie seem even more tragic when you watch it the second time? Poor Habour!!!
(But this was just brilliant: "I'm looking for a book by Kipling" - "We don't have anything by Kipling, but we do have this one about Pickling!". The joke got completely lost in the German version, of course. As usual.) |

You are right, they dont end up together (sorry for those who havent seen it). Although I hear they are dating in real life, which did skeeve me out a little bit considering he is signifigantly older than her, but whatever.
I like Glen whatshisface! lol
Hansard I believe. |
