"Gran Torino" with Clint Eastwood. It was a good movie. It was filmed in the Detroit area. Actually, the house they used was my dad's friend's sister's house in Grosse Pointe. Kayte, you can see Jefferson Ave. and Lake Saint Clair at the end of the movie. |

Oh and the other Uruguay film sounds good as well.Gonna try hunting it down=)
I just watched Dead Poet's Society and Trainspotting.
Both were awesome!Kelly Mac was so young in the latter.
Very humorous and brilliant!
Hope I don't disappoint you then. ;-)
Your recently seen movies are both super.
If you are into Kelly Mac and I can strongly recommend "Intermission" to you. If you haven't seen that is. One of my favorites with the genius edit and story telling.
I finally got to see Vicky Cristina Barcelona last weekend. I like it. Especially because of the sweet ambiance borrowed from Truffaut. It is likea modern day "Jules et Jim". Except the genders are different. :-) |

Saw 'Defiance' last night.
It was quite good. Very powerful story. By no means as hard hitting or as much 'gravitas' as Schindlers List. But a good movie all the same.
Would be interesting to know just how true the story was and just how much had been dramatised for Hollywood. There were certain events seemed too coincidental and too 'written' to be true.
Also you never quite felt the plight or the true suffereing they must have gone through.
Still a good film and worth seeing. |

I haven't got time to hunt down the pope's toilet but I saw the trailer which looked rather interesting. And when i saw it,I got reminded of this film called The Band's Visit.
An Arabic film that i love about the visit of an Egyptian Police band to Israel. They experienced bad bureaucracy and got lost in a small, desolate almost forgotten village where they were left with no other choice but to seek solace with the at first not so hospitable villagers.Very nice and a heartwarming one at that=)
Check it out here's the trailer link:

I wanted to watch Intermission once coz i heard it's great but i've been a little hesitant reason being i somehow have a bit of an issue with Colin Farrell=O
Never watched movies with him in it...heh.
Thanx for ur awesome recommendations nonetheless.Oh Vicky Christina Barcelona looks good as well!

Thanks Moray. I'm going to see "Defiance" for sure now. As far as WWII movies go, it's hard to top "The Pianist" and "Schindlers List" for me. "The Pianist" is probably my favorite movie ever. Did you see "Downfall" yet? I remember you saying you had it on DVD. It's really good and the story is told from a totally different perspective. Really interesting. |
