About Me
Well, I'm about to marry the love of my life, my girlfriend Aline, and having her in my life is the definitive proof that there's someone or somethin looking out for us (by the way, that's us in the picture, hehe); I have a strong faith in justice and a passion for human rights, two things people have often been deprived of where I come from, but things are changing for the best, even if at a slow pace; I'm a football fanatic and a lifelong supporter of SC Internacional, 2006 FIFA World Club Champions after beating FC Barcelona 1x0; I'm also an amateur singer and guitar player and I think that pretty much sums it up.
Music
Well, Travis, for one (OMG, what a surprise), Radiohead, Coldplay and Keane, just to stay with the contemporary brits; on the subject of brit bands and artists, Beatles & Rolling Stones (just because it's obvious doesn't mean it's laim, right?), Queen, David Bowie (until 1979, I guess), Black Sabbath (hehe), The Police, Belle and Sebastian, Teenage Fanclub and a bunch of others; my favorite non-brits would be Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Beach Boys (actually, Brian Wilson), Janis Joplin, Lou Reed/Velvet Underground, Iggy Pop/The Stooges, Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pavement, Weezer, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, AC/DC (the thunder from down under), Jet, Elis Regina, Secos & Molhados, Raul Seixas, Legião Urbana and Los Hermanos, the last five being among the best things that Brazilian music ever produced.
Films
I'm going to stick to directors/writers, so the list isn't endeless: Ingmar Bergman, Luis Buñuel, Federico Fellini, François Truffaut, Werner Herzog, Akira Kurosawa, Woody Allen, Martin Scorcese, Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Stanley Kubrick, Billy Wilder, Frank Capra, Alfred Hitchcock, Charlie Chaplin, Neil Labute, Kevin Smith, Steven Soderbergh, Quentin Tarantino, Cameron Crowe, Peter Jackson, Paul Thomas Anderson, Win Wenders, Pedro Almodóvar, Alejandro Gonzaléz Iñarritu, Alfonso Cuarón, Guillermo Del Toro, Juan José Campanella, Walter Salles Jr., Beto Brant and Fernando Meirelles.
Books
Russian literature in general; all plays by Neil Simon; "Letters to a Young Poet", by Rainier Maria Rilke; "The Old Man and the Sea" and all the short stories by Hemingway; "Animal Farm" and "1984", by Orwell; "Metamorphosis", by Kafka; "Cien Años de Soledad", by Gabriel García Marquéz; anything by Nick Hornby; Luis de Camões and Fernando Pessoa, the best Portuguese poets of all time; all the published works by J. D. Salinger; J. R. R. Tolkien, of course; and Brazilian literature as a whole, especially Nelson Rodrigues, Érico Verissimo, Luiz Fernando Verissimo, Carlos Drummond de Andrade, Manuel Bandeira, Rubem Fonseca, Rubem Braga, Álvares de Azevedo and Machado de Assis (trust me, these guys are worth the trouble of learning Portuguese).
