Unsure if this is common knowledge, but i heard this on Billy Sloans show last night on Clyde 1 (West of scotland radio station, for the non-glaswegians, infact fran wore the t-shirt in the closer video). Missed the intro, so unsure if any news about the album or the song.

Enjoyed the album version, but not quite the gem that had been expected and touted by ben filbert. The breakdown at the end is nice though... But i expect more from the rest of the album.

Woah! Not just me praising it. I've not heard the album version so we're judging 2 different things. Live, I think it's one of the best songs.

It's been played live during the summer gigs. There are plenty of live versions around.

I have just put a live version on you tube :) I prefer it to Song to Self personally.

It's fine. Was just surprised you mentioned me. I do think it's brilliant (as the video above shows I think. Thanks a lot) but I don't know how it's been recorded. Maybe I'll be disappointed. Hope not. :)

Imagine The Importance Of Being Idle by Oasis, but less cohesive.

Less Cohesive than The Importance Of Being Idle? What do you mean by cohesive? Do you mean the heavy use of auto tune on the vocal? Or do you mean passing off a bridge as a chorus? Or do you mean the use of the old trick of calling a song something really cool which doesn't have any bearing whatsoever on the content of the song?
You can't possibly mean Long Way Down.
Here just for you is what a real lyric looks like.

LONG WAY DOWN
It’s a long way down
Above the two tone town
And it’s no funny when you’re stuck in the middle
I’m coming up for air
I could be anywhere
It makes no difference when you live in a puddle
Now that I see it
How can I breath
When my heart’s in my mouth
And not on my sleeve
Better run little rabbit
Back to your hole in the ground
It’s a long way down
It’s a long way down
The people look so small
Sliding off the wall
Getting dizzy as the fall in the gutter
I watch the seagull
Swooping past the steeple
Crying for his dinner as he shits on the sinners
Now that I see it
How can I breathe
When my heart’s in my mouth
Instead of my sleeve
Better run little rabbit
Back to your hole in the ground
It’s a long way down
Mama
An eye for an eye
You’d say you’d never take a side
Papa
I’m too young to die
They’re never taking me
They’re never taking me alive
They’re never taking me alive
They’re never taking me alive

I especially like the lyric of the second verse and the melody of the middle 8...oooohhh it's got a middle 8, and a bridge and a verse and a chorus ooohhh and a coda...all in a concise 2.18

I'm lovin' the live versions. Haven't heard the album version yet, I can't imagine it being that different. Fran's reply was class! :-D haha you tell 'em Franny!

Edit: Those lyrics are genius!

I love this song. Oh so much.
And the end it's something that almost makes me cry every single time, because it changes the tempo and it's just amazing.
And I don't know, I love the live version and I think it won't be so different in the album... I hope so.

I thought that aswell about the ending. Really finishes the song off in style! :-D

Yay, the lyrics to Long Way Down! Finally I can learn the whole song and not just the bits I understood! *happy*
Thanks Fran!

This makes me appreciate the song even more. If it wasn't for J. Smith and Chinese Blues, which are just pure genius, it'd be my favourite (among the ones I heard so far).

Oooh...I don't remember how this song sounds--I only listened to the tiny bit that that one guy recorded a while back. I am loving the lyrics though!
