I'd say Grace, Jeff Buckley. Not so much the whole album- just Hallelujah. It's more haunting in itself than most albums are in their entireity!

It's a not bad song but I prefer Cohen's original or even John Cale's version.

Haunted, by Poe is pretty haunting!

My girlfriend has that album, not listened to it much. However 'Haunted' is really quite wonderful :)

Taken from real tape recordings she found in the attic if I remember correctly.

You think I'll cry? I won't cry! My heart will break before I cry! I will go mad

yes! that's right...i think some of it was her father--something about him recording it for her and her brother before he passed away.
Poe's brother wrote a book, The House of Leaves, and on some versions of the album, there are excerpts of it in "Hey Pretty."
it's a pretty good album...

Haunting, to me at least, is different from best. I'd go for these three without question, though:

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless (ALL about the production and sound)
Radiohead - Kid A
George Clinton And Parliament Funkadelic - Maggot Brain
